Ed,
I tried sending this to the editor, but am having computer troubles this morning, so thought of you.
Last night my wife and I decided to go out to eat. We had a gift card for a steak house, and decided to go to the one in Warner Robins....thinking that at this early hour (before 6p.m.) they wouldn't be very crowded. Wrong!! It took three trips around the parking lot to find a space, and when I appraoched the young lady at the dorr, she informed me that the wait would be 1Hr., 45Min. Even at that, we decided to wait. After sitting on a bench outside the front door for about 30 minutes, we decided to go inside where it was warmer, but much more crowded. We'd been inside for only about 10 minutes when a woman, a complete stranger to both of us came up and told us she wanted us to have her booth. Of course, in this day and age, I was quite skeptical, but followed her anyway. The booth that she and her husband were in was right in front of the bar. They informed us that these boothes were "first come, first serve", and that they had chosen us to take their place when they finished. After wishing us a happy new year, they were gone. During the meal, this kept going around in my head..."why us?". The more I thought about what they did, the more I realized that even in these days and times, there are still some good people in this world, and we just happened to catch the eye of two of them. I resolved to do the same, to "pay it forward" so to speak, which gave me an even better outlook on the year about to begin. I hope that this couple might be reading this, as I want to once again wish them a happy and prosperous new year. It would be nice if everyone who hears about this will, in turn, practice a random act of kindness each day. It certainly changed my outlook.

I understand you are good friends with Dee and Bruce Stanfield. Dee and I are therapists for Bibb Co and also worked together when first starting out as therapists. Its been suggested that I invite you to a gathering/event we are having this Thursday at 3:00 at Northwoods Academy (next to Riverside Methodist Church). My husband and I began raising money amongst all our friends to buy another friend/co-worker a van for her and her special needs child. She is also actually a teacher of special needs children. We were hoping to raise at least 1/2 of the $7000 a good used van we had found cost and then we’d pay the remainder. At last count our total is at $12770.00. We are totally surprising her with a van with a lift and many other items (gift certificates, gas cards, diapers, formula, etc) We thought you might be interested in doing a story focusing on the generousity of our community even in the hard times we’re in. If you are coming come 5-10 min early as they are bringing her out at 3. Any questions call me 737-9735

There is no one who is funnier, more inspiring, and just plain wonderful than Durwood Fincher. It is an honor to be his friend, and the 26 years I've known him, he has brought much joy and laughter into my life and into the life of many of my friends and loved ones. Keep on sharing, Durwood. Your light truly shines everywhere you go and with those whom you meet on a daily basis.
