About Ed Grisamore

Ed and familyEd Grisamore is a columnist for The Telegraph in Macon, Georgia. He is a native of Atlanta and graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia with a degree in journalism.

He began his newspaper career in the Telegraph sports department, where he was an editor, reporter and columnist. He began writing local columns in December, 1996 and replaced the retiring Bill Boyd in June of 1998.

Ed is the author of three books, and has won more than 40 writing awards, including a "grand slam" in the Georgia Press Association in four different categories: Best Sports Writing (1985), Best Feature Writing (1998), Serious Columns (1998) and Humor Columns (2000). He is a member of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.

Ed was among the Georgia newspaper columnists featured in the November 2005 issue of "Georgia Trend" magazine in a story called "A Way With Words" and listed in the "Who's Who Among Georgia Newspaper Columnists."

In addition to writing his newspaper column, Ed has served as advisor for the Telegraph's Teen Board, working with local high school students. In the past, he has done weekly television commentaries on WGXA-TV, Ch. 24 in Macon. He currently does radio commentary statewide on Georgia Public Radio's "Georgia Gazette."

Ed and his wife, Delinda, have three sons - Ed , Grant and Jake. He serves as a deacon at First Baptist Church and is involved in numerous community activities including serving as a volunteer tour bus guide for the Cherry Blossom Festival. He teaches "Writing Your Autobiography for Loved Ones" as part of the "senior college" program at Wesleyan College.

His first two books, "True Gris" and "Once Upon a Whoopee" were nominated for the annual Georgia Author of the Year award in creative non-fiction. His third book, "More Gris" is a second collection of stories and columns.

Ed's book, "Smack Dab in Dog Crossing" is another collection of stories and columns that was published in March, 2005. Ed's latest book is a biography of legendary high school coach Billy Henderson called "It Can Be Done: The Billy Henderson Story.''
